UH Mānoa Programs and Global Rankings Highlight College of Engineering’s Impact
The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa continues to earn national and international recognition for its academic excellence and research impact, as reflected in the latest 2025 rankings from both U.S. News & World Report and Times Higher Education (THE). Among the many high-performing programs, the College of Engineering stands out for its contributions to the university’s reputation and to Hawaiʻi’s future workforce.
U.S. News & World Report: Engineering Among Nation’s Best
In the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings, UH Mānoa saw seven graduate programs place in the nation’s top 50 and 14 more in the top 100. The College of Engineering was recognized for the strength of its graduate programs, with four disciplines ranked among the best in the country. Specifically, electrical engineering was ranked No. 90, civil engineering No. 91, and mechanical engineering No. 124. Overall, the College of Engineering was ranked No. 163 among U.S. engineering schools that grant doctoral degrees.
These rankings are based on a range of criteria, including research activity, placement success, quality assessments, student selectivity, and faculty resources. The College of Engineering’s performance in these areas demonstrates its commitment to preparing students for leadership roles in Hawaiʻi and beyond, and its faculty’s dedication to impactful research and innovation.
Times Higher Education: Engineering in the World’s Top 4%
On the global stage, the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject placed UH Mānoa’s engineering programs in the top 501–600 worldwide, out of more than 25,000 institutions. This places UH Mānoa’s engineering among the top 2–4% globally, a testament to the college’s international competitiveness in teaching, research environment, research quality, industry income, and international outlook.
Broader Academic Excellence
Beyond engineering, UH Mānoa achieved top 200 world status in education, arts and humanities, and physical sciences, and strong national rankings in law, medicine, nursing, business, and social sciences. These accomplishments reflect the university’s broad strengths and its role as Hawaiʻi’s flagship institution for higher education and research.
