New talent and exciting ideas are the life-blood of engineering. That’s why exposing engineering concepts to elementary and mid-level students as early as possible has become a priority in education across the nation. In this way, awareness of how engineering is integrated into everything students use in one way, shape, or form can increase and fuel their interest in pursuing it as a career.
At the College of Engineering at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, one of our top priorities is to increase local K-12 students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We recognize that the importance of raising awareness benefits the increasing and pressing needs of the State of Hawai‘i in terms of technological infrastructures, renewable energy sources, and developing new infrastructures for the Internet and the security of its users.
