Keysight Technologies Upgrades UH Engineering Lab

The University of Hawai‘i College of Engineering has upgraded and renamed a teaching lab to the Keysight Electronics Laboratory, thanks to a generous donation from Keysight Technologies. This upgrade enhances hands-on learning and prepares students for careers in engineering.

The transformation began after Dr. Douglas M. Baney, Worldwide Corporate Director of Education at Keysight, visited UH Mānoa and met with Dr. Wayne Shiroma, ECE Department Chair. During his visit, Dr. Baney also met Max Lin, the College’s Electronics Technician, who later led the lab’s upgrade using Keysight’s Smart Bench Essentials Series equipment.

“Keysight is proud to collaborate with UH Mānoa to provide cutting-edge lab tools that enhance hands-on learning and workforce readiness,” said Dr. Baney.

The upgraded lab features four advanced Keysight instruments:

  • Oscilloscope – 50 MHz, 2-channel with built-in waveform generator.
  • Waveform Generator – 20 MHz, 2-channel for precise signal creation.
  • DC Power Supply – Triple-output with independent configurations.
  • Digital Multimeter – High-resolution, fast readings, and extensive data logging.

“Keysight’s investment reflects the strong education our faculty provide to students,” said Dr. Shiroma.

As a global leader in design, emulation, and test solutions, Keysight Technologies supports STEM education by providing students access to industry-standard equipment. This upgrade ensures UH engineering students gain real-world experience, preparing them for internships and careers in engineering and technology.
